Review - Fallen Empire: Legions
Posted by silverjacketman on Monday, August 04, 2008 at 3:31:24 PM
Title: Fallen Emipire: Legions
Developer: Instant action
Publisher: Instant Action
Genre: Bowser-Based FPS
Platform: PC
Cost: Free 2 Play
Website: www.instantaction.com

A little while back ID Software announced it was going to be re-releasing Quake 3 as Quake Live, a browser-based version of the now legendary competitive FPS. Now when most of us heard the words 'browser-based' we were like, "Wuuuuuuuh?!" A lot of people thought this was a turn of phrase or misuse of words meaning that it would just keep your stats in a browser. Well folks, I'm here today to let you know, browser based FPSs are not just possible, they're already here!

Thus I present to you; Fallen Empire: Legions! FEL is a jet-pack based FPS where you soar around with complete freedom of motion on HUGE maps doing battle for God-knows-what and proving your arial dominance on the field of battle. Its brutal and quick, explosives and gun fire showering the landscape from on-high! Expert use of the 3rd dimension and precision aim are a must to be successful in this game. It's truly an adrenaline rush for any avid FPS player.

There are a few drawbacks to the game though. While the controls are quite intuitive, they don't leave much room for error. Aim has to be pixel perfect in air combat and leading your target while moving at 100mph. Sometimes I wish hitting tab would check the score like most FPSs instead of putting me in Third-person perspective. Also, the game can easily get laggy and the system requirements are vague at best. But probably the biggest gripe about the game is lack of variety and customization. There aren't more than 5 weapons to choose from and you can only choose preset loadouts to outfit your character with. Also, no matter which loadout or team your character chooses, you always look the same. Also, there aren't many rewards for playing beyond regular stat checking. All of these problems still don't change the fact that this is a solid and fun step forward in online gaming!

So all-in-all Fallen Empire: Legions is an interesting look at what browser-based gaming is going to be like in the near future. It's sort of reminiscent of the Tribes series with it's jetpack antics and over-the-top action, and not to mention a good distraction while we wait for Quake LIVE to finally open their doors.

So here are the scores:

Gameplay: 8/10
Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 7/10
Story: 5/10

Overall: 7.0 Good

I hope this has been an informative and fun review of Fallen Empire: Legions! Feel free to post a comment with feedback or discussing your own experiences with the game!

Oh and here's a video:

No Adviser, No Club

Death by Stress by =alexiuss
STRESS! Oh the ideas and yearning to plan out the gamers club for next year. But surprise surprise: No adviser means no club!!!! We can day dream about the budget and what to do with it all we want, but if we want our hands to even get close to the honey pot, we have to find a teacher that will put up with us!
So we want to tell everyone to get excited about October for the club, but if we don't have an adviser by then, we are a tad screwed, and not in a good way!

In an estranged effort to cram the club website down each and every one of your tight, virgin throats, I'm going to start revamping the site! I'm going to look into graphic updates, streamlining logistics and more cool tech. The ultimate goal is to increase the use of this site as a social networking site for gamers. If you have friends you think would be interested in our site, they don't have to go to SFCC to be a member! This update is kinda half-assed right now, but I'll get to work on making the site a positive and awesome experience for all of our members! Expect many updates over the next few weeks!

Also, there may be another chance at some more of those $5 gift card over the summer! So stay tuned!

Peace out!
